Beer Blitz rates beers relative to their category. Our philosophy is that comparing a Pilsner to a Stout is like
comparing an apple and an orange. Some may like only one style, some may like different styles depending on
the season, some may pair different styles with different types of food, or some may like a variety depending on
their mood for a particular day. In any event, we do not believe that an excellent lager should be penalized on
scoring because a person may prefer a Stout, or a Pale Ale, or a Barleywine, etc. Each style is distinct with its
own intended result and we respect each style independently.

Beer Blitz raters have almost 40 years combined beer rating experience. We believe our raters have an
amazing ability to objectively rate beers relative to category and repeatably score a particular beer generally the
same today as they did six months ago.

Categories

1. Appearance - judged overall based on color, clarity, and beer head. Perfect score =25

2. Aroma - judged overall based on strength, and the actual scents that are detected.         Perfect score = 25

3. Palate - judged overall based on the initial taste of the beer. Perfect score = 25

4. Finish - judged overall based on the final taste of the beer. Perfect score = 25

Total Score - A Perfect Total Score = 100 but the total is NOT simply an addition of the four category scores.
The score is weighted - Appearance and Aroma combine for 1/4 weight, Palate and Finish combine for a 3/4
weight in the Total Score.

Letter Grades are assigned as follows:

1. 100 to 98 = A+

2. 97.9 to 92.1 = A

3. 90 to 92 = A -

and so on..

The scores are provided in a table on our brand example page, followed by the brewery, a link to the brewers
website, and the description on the bottles label. Next we post the comments made by the top Beer Blitz raters
to describe the beer and explain the rationale behind the numerical scores given. Finally the reader can post
their own comments or read those posted by someone else on the individual beer brand blog.

Site Category Notes:

Beer By Style - Sorts beers by their style, ale, lager, etc. and lists them from highest score to lowest score.

Beer By Score - Sorts beers from highest score to lowest score regardless of category. Remember we do NOT
compare one style of beer with a completely different style.  A higher score than a different example of the
SAME style means it is preferred. A Pilsner that has a higher score than a stout, etc. is not necessarily preferred.

Beer By ABV - Lists beer from highest ABV to lowest ABV.
