Dark & Tan's are a combination of two beers, typically a lighter pale ale and a stout. Some bars and brewers will simply mix the two
for flavor, giving more of a porter flavor over that of a stout or pale ale individually. More interesting is when the stout is suspended
on top of the pale beer, separated with both a dark and a tan layer in the glass.
Tips for making your own
1. Chill the pale beer as cold as possible without freezing it.
2. Keep the stout at a room temperature
3. The stout will settle somewhat so pour the pale beer in the glass one to two inches from the top.
4. Pour the stout over the back side of a spoon, the spoon handle is usually bent to hang on the glass. This breaks up the pour of
the stout to keep it from mixing.
5. This can be made with a variety of beers, probably most common are Bass Pale Ale and Guinness Stout as shown below
